For the love of chestnuts
Ok, let's go with cake.
Fact: This one I have today is from sometime ago. But, it is still awesome. Only this morning someone mailed me asking to happily share on of my chestnut recipes with all the photos for... wait for it ... blog credit! Woot? NOT!
Fact: Chestnuts are really cool. And, really warm. What?!! Yes, they are. I love them. I may have eaten them everyday when I was Istanbul last December.
It is gluten free too. Yay!
Fact: I want this cake now. Hmmmm.....!
Bracing...
It is old news now that Juno is here. But in New York we are not exactly hunkering down. The transit lines, or the blood lines of the city have been severed or blocked but the adults and children have decided it to game it on foot or skis! I always find it amusing that the cross country skis come out when we have any decent dump! I don't know whether that is adorable or silly or just simply urbanites wishfulness for the country.. :)
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, things have been moving. I have been experimenting the last couple of weeks with using tripods in my photo shoots. I am usually the minimal equipment kinda gal. So, my god-given-hands have been my tripod for the 6 years that I have been in this world.
Pancakes and Eggs
It is a simple world I live in.
Markets on Sunday. Fresh eggs and milk from the farm. Sundays for lazy brunches. Sundays for kickstarting workout routine. Saturdays when I wake up without an alarm, and yet, early. Saturdays with leisurely dinners with friends. Saturdays of drinks with the cherished. Fridays to celebrate the end of the week. Fridays when coffee flows into wine. Fridays when eyes shine bright for possibilities. And, I forget about the rest of the days in the week.
Wish that were all true! It isn't or but that doesn't stop me from attempting for that ideal every time. Ha! Eternal optimist. :)
Tel Aviv, Israel - The 'NOW' City
The pulse buzzes. The adrenalin rushes. Beauty abounds. The senses are in superlative. It is sexy. It is stylish. It is downright fascinating.
As my first exposure to Israel, Tel Aviv set the pace and tone for the time spent in the country. After spending a week in different parts of the country, I can easily say this is one place that beckons me back with the promise of more. Ostensibly, I was there to sample the cuisine and the food. But, what is food without culture and people?! Set against the interesting collage that makes the culture of Israel, food in Tel Aviv stands as an extroversion of its outlook and history.
It is without any hesitation an invigorating and entirely intriguing city. Not only does it offer the best landscape to study the congruence of diverse ethnicities, it does so with a remarkably calm composure. Given the geo-dynamics of the region, calm is hardly an adjective you would expect to connect with this experience. Yet, on the surface of this city, in the faces and lives of the people who live here, you only see a sheen of unruffled normalcy.
Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower Salad
I have been playing (a lot) with recipes and seasonal ingredients. And, the fridge is chock full at the moment and everyday is a new recipe and more lunches and dinners prepped for later. I love a full fridge! It makes me feel so much more optimistic about life. I am eating healthy, filling and super tasty meals. Interestingly, many of them are just vegetarian; No meat/dairy/fish/grains at all. Yet, they are proper mains, and not sides.
Often, I have heard that vegetables do not have protein or you need to add cheese or an egg atleast to fill the protein quota for a balanced meal. Actually, vegetables do have protein in them. They are just not the most efficient source of them. So, essentially you need to eat a lot of vegetables to get the same amount of protein needed. Also, you are not a strict vegetarian, and working out or in a cold place, you may actively crave more protein packed foods because you can absorb the nutrients faster with less. Nevertheless, eating more vegetables is never a bad thing.
Like a whole head of cauliflower in a salad for two. Splendid idea!
