Landscaping with Weigela
Weigela is a wonderful Bee and Hummingbird Magnet. It bursts forth in prolific long lasting blooms that last all Spring into early Summer. Some species like the Sonic Bloom, Czechmark Trilogy put on a sporadic show in late Sunmer. Although not native, it’s a determined Pollinator bush, with both bees and Hummingbirds finding early sources of nectar and again in the late Summer when options are fewer. They make a terrific addition to a pollinator garden as much as to general floral landscaping.

Colocasia - Elephant Ear Plant
Colocasia, Elephant Ears, makes a stunning feature planting in the Summer garden.
Planted in pairs to pillar a walkway or as a stand alone, it puts on an arresting display from late June through first frost. It offers a gorgeous foreground to a backdrop of perennials, especially hydrangeas. Plant in containers with low overflowing foliage for a flash effect. And, these bulb annual are amazingly sustainable and hardy. Dig them up in Fall before first frost and store in a dry cool place, just like Dahlias.
