The Promise of After.....
Ah.. the absence! Coming back from it like trying to talk after a long period of silence. You don't know where to start, what to say. Words begin and then get stuck in the roof of your mouth and never quite make through with the sound. There is a anxiousness in the eyes while it tries to make sense of this awkward and sudden introversion...
Perhaps, I should just tell you what it is. It my magazine... NOURISHED. I just wrapped up the Spring/Summer issue and sent it to the printer. ....
Key West Inspired Snapper Fritters
A typical dish of this Floridan island is fish fritters, typically made with grouper, and, seasoned with a mix of celery seed, paprika, red pepper and salt. It reminds me of the Indian pakora and inspired by a partnership with the region, I wanted to recreate a blend of my memories and the region favorite snack! So, taking this fusion blend, I created Baked Chickpea Mackerel Fritters!
When You have the Balls...
Last weekend, I had a completely unexpected conversation. It began as a mild curiosity of the business end of things. I am always interested in how people and business sustain. So, I asked. More so, here is what I took away... It is really about HAVING THE F'ING BALLS TO BE VULNERABLE!!!
And, then there are these balls. Yeah. I am being all literal here. What with the topic and the recipe. These are amazing balls really. You need more of these literal ones (along with the figurative stuff above). They are all vegetarian (and seasonal), super flavorful and just so good for you and for your mind. Also, I am told it is much enjoyed by toddlers! :)
A Calling From County Kerry
British/Irish/Scottish cuisines suffer from a generalization of blandness. Meat and potatoes is the abject disdain with which the entire landmass food is painted.
The reality is the stuff tastes so good to begin with, over there, that you need little more than salt and pepper to bring out the best in it! In the UK, despite the industrialization of agriculture, the average meat or produce tastes so much better than in the US.
Hop over to Ireland where many farms and fisheries are still family operated and backyard husbandry abounds, it is simply an insult to the ingredient to douse it in seasoning or sauce. The meat or vegetable shines in its own glory!
Oh and the potato... Ah the potato!
In Colors I Love
This is not my Valentine TEASE! That is coming later this week. This really is about me finding some things I enjoy, and, allowing myself pleasure in them, in the aftermath of life little twists.
Four years ago, I nervously walked in a Bergdof Goodman store and bought my first ever red lipstick. If it wasn't for the lovely gay salesman and his impeccable taste, I so would not have picked it up. And, then where would I be today? Still stuck in my boring monochrome. So, yeah, you unnamed person, you can chalk this one up to your karma; you brought life to a naive soul.
So, there began a journey of falling in love again. With the vibrance of life, with the possibilities, with new thinking and several overhauls followed.
