Temptation

Temptation is a plump, red, hot house tomato! And, I gave in to it.

Have you bitten into a ripe tomato drizzled with sea salt and olive oil? No. You must! If you want to know what lust and love is. It is a singular pleasure. Very few things can compare to the slurp and settling flourish of that bite. The way the salt brings out the juices that as they come in contact with the olive oil, crescend into a spontaneous emulsion; Words do little justice.

Now, let us simply notch up the game. Blood oranges. There is something just wicked about them. Wickedly good. There they are looking pleasantly like a orange until you cut into them and watch them bleed. It makes you want to reach and suck all of that delicious, sweet, sticky nectar as it streams down your hand. It's reflexive. It's like an after aphrodisiac. You want it. More and more.

Bring the two together and it is .........

A Waffle Concept and Savory Turmeric Toasted Chickpea and Squash Waffles

You see, if you are gluten free or simply wheat allergic, like me, it is absolute pain in the ass to find bread substitutes that are fluffy, light and do not taste like card board because the US still has not caught with gluten free baking as much as our friends across the Atlantic. In comes, the savior, the humble waffle maker.

I have been testing a few flavors and this one today made with chickpea flour and incorporating roasted squash was perhaps one of the tougher one for the little fella to work through. But, eventually, I figured it out and all was sunny.

So, that is my waffle concept - an alternative bread......

Bracing...

It is old news now that Juno is here. But in New York we are not exactly hunkering down. The transit lines, or the blood lines of the city have been severed or blocked but the adults and children have decided it to game it on foot or skis! I always find it amusing that the cross country skis come out when we have any decent dump! I don't know whether that is adorable or silly or just simply urbanites wishfulness for the country.. :)

Meanwhile, in the kitchen, things have been moving. I have been experimenting the last couple of weeks with using tripods in my photo shoots. I am usually the minimal equipment kinda gal. So, my god-given-hands have been my tripod for the 6 years that I have been in this world.

Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower Salad

I have been playing (a lot) with recipes and seasonal ingredients. And, the fridge is chock full at the moment and everyday is a new recipe and more lunches and dinners prepped for later. I love a full fridge! It makes me feel so much more optimistic about life. I am eating healthy, filling and super tasty meals. Interestingly, many of them are just vegetarian; No meat/dairy/fish/grains at all. Yet, they are proper mains, and not sides.

Often, I have heard that vegetables do not have protein or you need to add cheese or an egg atleast to fill the protein quota for a balanced meal. Actually, vegetables do have protein in them. They are just not the most efficient source of them. So, essentially you need to eat a lot of vegetables to get the same amount of protein needed. Also, you are not a strict vegetarian, and working out or in a cold place, you may actively crave more protein packed foods because you can absorb the nutrients faster with less. Nevertheless, eating more vegetables is never a bad thing.

Like a whole head of cauliflower in a salad for two. Splendid idea!
