A Family Getaway - Mohonk Mountain House
Mohonk Mountain House delivers for the discerning unattached and for the time starved and much-needed-break-thirsty parent. If you are in need for a few days of family vacation that is worth the pretty penny, this is a place that ranks high on that list in NE. So much so, that I recommend making it a default vacation spot; not something I would have said four years ago - that was Paris. And, Paris will be again once my TFs are older, and so will Mohonk because it can be a tradition.

The view from the summit is one of the best I have seen on any hike I have done in my life! Nowhere has there so much diversity to behold... blue shaded mountains in scaled heights int he distance, the rich green hues of the farmlands directly beneath us, the sharp edges of the rock we were resting on, the sheer drop that a small slip will befall you. THE SPIRIT OF THE CANYON
The majestic red mountains. I had just summited them. I did not tame them, nay, I had simply monkeyed up and perched on top.
I had neither conquered nor had been conquered.
As I sat atop the ‘dune’ in bliss, from the physical effort of getting there, I felt the breeze caressing my face, my mind emptying and a strange stirring within, the beginning of a release. I cycled back downhill. Wings took shape. Where once they had been tied down by circumstances, they hesitantly spread out and I learnt to fly, once again.
The mountains speak to you, you’ll see, they said. The desert is a fountain of life, they said. Take a trip alone, they said. You will find yourself and come back with new understanding, they said.
